On Sunday 13 February I was walking on the Kleinmond coastal path when a young boy came swiftly riding along the narrow, winding gravel path on his straight handlebars bicycle. In my mind, and to my concern, cycles are NOT allowed on our walkway. Having subsequently checked the Kleinmond coastal walkway access boards, bicycles are marked as ‘not permitted’, though one newer board on the east side of the Harbour did not show the crossed-out bicycle sign – why? Bicycles are a danger on this path, which is a WALKING PATH, frequented by visitors and many, if not most, of our older, retired residents. Bicycles of various types have trails and access (sometimes disputed) for their activity in and around Kleinmond, including the new facility being developed near the tennis courts. For safety and consideration, we all need to know whether bicycles are or are not permitted on our coastal walking path. If not, should a ‘Citizen’s Arrest’ procedure be considered or introduced in this situation? In addition, ALL notice boards should carry the same information. I would appreciate response from Conservation as well as Municipal bodies.
