BETTY’S BAY – Well-known local conservationist, Pete Oxford, has confirmed that Brutus, one of the important males in the Betty’s Bay troop has apparently been shot and wounded. A short while ago baboon monitors were in the mountain above Clarence Drive trying to locate the wounded baboon. Overstrand Municipality’s environmental manager, Liesl de Villiers was also on the scene. According to Oxford there was apparently a witness to the shooting and that a video of the injured baboon was doing the rounds. Police and law enforcers were called to the scene just after three this afternoon (Saturday)after it was said that a Sunny Seas resident had apparently also seen or heard the shooting. The supposed suspects were apparently a large group of men partying it up (apparently since the start of the weekend) in one of the homes above Clarence Drive. Police and a group of law enforcers approached the home and after a brief discussion, left. It turned out that the supposed witness was not willing to make a statement. One of the group of men at the home later told the Herald that they knew nothing about the incident and that no baboons had been to the house where they were staying. He said they were celebrating a bachelors'.
