KLEINMOND – The local Buildit is organising a golf day on 6 May to raise funds for a roof to be erected over the assembly slab at Kleinmond Primary School. Nydia Carelse, who initiated the fundraising says: “Having a roof over the current assembly slab has been decades overdue. I knew first-hand from a kid’s perspective when I was there at school how great a need this was. You had kids passing out due to the harsh heat and others getting sick from rainy days on this exact slab. “For the first time someone listened – Jeanine Grebe and her team from Buildit Kleinmond. This roof can serve for assemblies, indoor play area and exercises in winter because the school has no sports fields. Meetings, fund raisers and award ceremonies can be held there, because there is no school hall. Eventually it could be converted into a proper school hall with sports facilities,” she suggests. She urges the community to take part in this much needed drive to have the roof erected before winter comes.
