Please help us to keep Anima’s doors open

Anima, the small therapy centre for children and young people with severe developmental delays in Sandbaai is facing severe financial difficulties after recent cuts in government funding. The little school has been a haven for many a special child from Hangklip/Kleinmond but is now facing some truly terrible choices. They really need our help to pull through and continue with the fantastic job they have been doing for years.

Anima is a registered NPO that offers children and young people with severe developmental delays a daily therapeutic programme in a welcoming, enriching, and stimulating environment.

It is a place where each child is valued, encouraged, and guided to reach their fullest potential, whatever that may be! The loving, patient, and empathic educators and teachers are dedicated to building the self-esteem of confidence of every child in their care.

The children and young people who attend Anima cannot be accommodated at other facilities, special needs schools, or mainstream schools. Often, the families of the children they welcome cannot afford to pay fees. The small amount of funding they currently receive from the Western Cape Department of Social Development covers less than a quarter of the running costs. Transport is an additional cost.

As a registered NPO, donations to Anima are tax deductible with a receipt they can provide on request.

There are two groups at Anima. The first provides education and remedial help to learners who can be academically educated, but at a slower and more on a one on basis than is possible at ordinary schools. Their teacher is Teacher Corné, qualified primary school teacher who specializes in remedial aid.

The other class has a teacher (Teacher Rochelle) and an assistant teacher (Teacher Khaya) who helps their kids to interact with one another, teach them basic social skills and give imaginative arts and crafts classes, often aided by volunteers.

The two classes are combined whenever they do baking and cooking or gross motor skills exercises and praise and worship or sing-song classes
