I was shocked last week to find out that two of our pre-schools in town don’t have hot water! Their geysers have been broken for a long time and they don’t have money to replace it. They boil water in a kettle to wash dishes.
There are also leaking roofs, damp ceilings and cracked walls. We are all projects of Child Welfare and the subsidies we get don’t cover even 40% of our expenses. We do fundraising on a regular basis, but in a community where people struggle to pay school fees, it’s difficult to raise funds.
Sadly we are dependent on donors to help with maintenance and other expenses, because the little money that comes in are used to buy food for the children and pay bills and salaries.
So if you are willing and able to make any contribution towards a small geyser (they are around R2000), installation thereof, any of the other projects that still needs to be done or running costs, you can contact the manager of Child Welfare; Michelle Barry: 072 749 9936, email: manager@childwelfarekleinmond.co.za or Alta van Wyk: 079 192 6260, email: altavw.spp@gmail.com
Let’s stand together and help our community’s pre-schools.
