BABOON SURVEY RESULTS – Majority vote ‘No’

PRESS RELEASE – The survey on appointing an independent mediator for baboon related human conflicts in Pringle Bay has shown that most residents voted against the idea.

A total of 647 residents took part in the survey with 268 voted ‘Yes’ and 379 voted ‘No’.

After removing duplicate or invalid IDs/erf numbers, the total valid votes were 556, with 42% in favour and 58% against.

Further refining the data by excluding IDs that did not match those of the property owners resulted in 404 valid votes. Of these, 158 residents (39%) voted ‘Yes,’ while 246 (61%) voted ‘No’ on the appointment of a mediator in Pringle Bay.

The existing Adaptive Baboon Management Plan, a proven non-lethal approach for managing the Pringle Bay baboon troop, will continue as planned. We kindly ask the support of residents so that we can work together to ensure a workable future for the town, its residents, properties, businesses, and baboons.
