PRESS RELEASE – Overstrand Municipality received the Phase 4 Performance Certificate for its Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) achievements. The original target was to create 5Â 144 work opportunities for the EPWP participants during the period from 1 April 2019 – 31 March 2024, but the Municipality exceeded this goal by generating 5Â 825 job opportunities.
The EPWP is a government initiative aimed at providing meaningful work opportunities to the unemployed poor through community-driven assets and services, while promoting economic inclusion, sustainable livelihoods, and national development.
The Municipality’s Socio-Economic Department oversees the implementation of the EPWP-programme in Overstrand.
According to Harry Zass, the EPWP Overberg Regional Co-ordinator, the targets for Phase 5 are set as follows: 60% of work opportunities for women, 55% for youth aged 16 to 35, and 2% for persons with disabilities
