PRINGLE BAY – A Litter-Free project, spearheaded by Roline Campher from Meridian in partnership with the local Ratepayers Association, has been making a significant impact since it started in June 2023.
While hacking one Saturday morning, Roline noticed the litter accumulating at the village entrance. She then started to organise an event where she and a team of volunteers meet every second Thursday of the month to tackle the problem. Normally a group of 5-10 volunteers will collect 10 bags of litter in the hour they spend on the project. Afterwards they get together for some refreshments.
While the project has started with cleaning up at the village entrance, they are also now focussing on cleaning the CBD of Pringle Bay as well as the newly created Fynbos Trail. With more help, they will be able to look at other prominent places in the village as well.
In December Roline started to hand out biodegradable, re-usable bags to the kids at Pringle Bay Eco School, as well as to residents and visitors of the village. “With this I want to motivate the people to take the bag with them every time they go for a walk, pick up litter on their way, clean out the bag back at their homes and use it the next time they go for a walk again,” she says.
Roline has some more activities in mind. Contact her on 083 4595934 if you want to become involved in any of these activities.
