KLEINMOND – Child Welfare is urging the community to help keep Heideland Pre-primary school open by sponsoring a child for only R120 per month for 12 months.
Heideland is the oldest Early Childhood Development Centre in the Hangklip / Kleinmond area.
It first opened its doors in 1982. There are currently six permanently employed staff who are well-trained and supported by Child Welfare SA Kleinmond.
“As a community project we strive to help the children enrolled at the school to receive good education and to be in a place of safety where they can grow and develop,” says Michelle Barry of Child Welfare Kleinmond.
“They are our future leaders. The school also focuses on providing the young learners with two nutritious meals per day, because a child cannot learn or play on an empty stomach. Our children come from the surrounding townships of Overhills and Mountain View.
Many of the parents cannot afford to keep their children in school, therefore school fees is a challenge and not paid regularly. This makes it difficult for us to pay our staff salaries, food and other suppliers.
“Fundraising is ongoing but with so many other ECD schools in the area, it is difficult to raise much. We cry out to the community to help us keep the dreams of the 68 children enrolled at Heideland alive. Your support is what we need most.
“We currently have the SPONSOR A CHILD for R120 per month for 12 months running.
If you would like to become part of making a difference in the lives of these less fortunate children, please contact Ms Michelle Barry at 072 749 9936/028 271 4044 or email to manager@childwelfarekleinmond.co.za for more information.
“We are proud of what Heideland has achieved through the years and we will continue to fight to keep alive the legacy of the people who fought so hard to start this school so many years ago.”
