PRINT ADVERTISING
The Overstrand Herald’s printed version has been around for more than 30 years. We find ourselves in the enviable position that almost 10% of all permanent residents in Hangklip/Kleinmond buy a Herald product, whether it is print or digital, every single week. Here is how you can use this formidable reach to market your own business or product.
We have three standard sizes for print advertising: Full page (275MM X 192mm), Halfpage (192mm x 137mm) and Quarterpage (137mm x 92mm) – see examples below. We do not design ads, Please use Canva/ Adobe Express or talk to one of the numerous social media designers in our region. If you don’t know of someone, we can recommend somebody. Material deadline is strictly the Tuesday 12:00 of the week of publication. No exceptions.

One of our most popular formats is write-ups/advertorials on businesses and products. Not only is it an excellent way to introduce your business or product to our community, it is also good value for money, as you get a full page for the price of a half page. We need at least a week’s advance notice.
DIGITAL ADVERTISING
We can now for the first time also offer programmatic advertising to our clients. This simply means that we add your advert/video or audio to our community feed at a specific time or at regular intervals. Pricing obviously depends on the client’s specific requirements. Please talk to us.
We can also facilitate display adverts at various positions on a number of our pages on the website. Please enquire.
Podcast advertising. An interesting new option is short 20-second intro ads for podcasts. We can also do mentions as part of the podcasts. This is where the host refers to your business or product at the beginning of the podcast. Please enquire.
COMBINING PRINT AND DIGITAL
While our print product is popular and established we also have a strong and growing digital presence. Our Facebook page has more than 31 000 followers and we recently launched an innovative and market-leading new website. The site is unique in the sense that it combines social ( facebook-like community feed) with various new ways of bringing the news, like podcasts. We have also developed three new advertising packages to fully utilise both our print and digital platforms:
1.A monthly package combining a quarter page print advert weekly plus you become a digital partner on our website. You get access to our community feed (where all our content eventually lands up and everybody gets to read) to post daily. It is an extremely powerful marketing tool and we believe it is one of the building blocks of the new generation community journalism we’re building. The individual parts of this package would cost you more than R4000. As an introductory offer and for a limited time you can now buy this package for only R2000pm. It is a no-hassle way of fully utilising the Herald’s impressive reach in our coastal communities. You need to commit for at least three months and pay upfront monthly to qualify.
2. The second package brings a new dimension to local marketing. It combines a podcast with 3 min video ( drone footage included if feasible) and a full-page advert in the print edition. This would normally cost you between R10 000 and R20 000. Our launch package sells for only R6000. Again payment is in advance and we need some lead-in time ( at least two weeks) to allow for editing and final approval. Below is an example of drone footage we recently shot.
3. The third option is to become a digital partner of the Herald. We work with local businesses and invest time and effort in pushing their marketing to a new level using all our resources, print, website and social media plus our extensive local knowledge. We only have 5 or 6 digital partners at any given time. Our digital partners pay a monthly rate as agreed. Contact us for more information.
