HERMANUS – Former high powered Mayco (Mayoral Committee) member in the Overstrand, Clinton Lerm took up his seat as a regular councillor here at Wednesday’s council meeting. The Overstrand Herald broke the news last week that Lerm had resigned from the Mayco. His resignation comes amid rumours that Lerm and Mayor Annelie Rabie had had a serious fallout, even speculation that a group within the DA was planning a coup d’état against the Mayor.

Well, judging from Wed-nesday’s council meeting nothing could be further from the truth. There were no obvious signs of any strain and despite some serious probes by the Herald, none of the DA councillors were prepared to break ranks and tell us the real story behind the unexpected move.

A congenial Mr Lerm greeted the Herald’s reporter friendly and even asked us to take a new photograph of him. Lerm told our reporter on the sidelines of the meeting that he had already resigned on November 10th  last year. He said being a member of the Mayco was a full-time job which sometimes even extended into the evenings. “I’ve done it for three years, but have now decided to rather focus on my business, which has been neglected. I’m off to India in 10 day’s time to look at some business opportunities,” he said.
