We have news on some exciting developments at the Hermanus Varsity campus and introduce you to a vibrant, rather special young youth leader. We tell you the story behind Kleinmond’s special relationship with a small community in Patagonia, Argentina. Then we take you on a visit to a great new restaurant, no - let’s call it a social experience, in Betty’s Bay.
South Africa moves to alert level 1 at midnight on Sunday 20 September 2020 (in other words Monday morning). International borders open on 1 October to allow business and leisure travellers to and from South Africa subject to certain limitations and conditions. Visitors must present negative Covid test done in last 72 hours or go into quarantine at own cost. List of countries will be published later. All long term visas re-instated. Curfew changed to 24:00 to 4:00 am. Liquor can be sold from 9:00 to 17:00 pm Monday to Friday. Licensed premises can sell alcohol till 24:00. Restrictions on gatherings eased to 50% of capacity of venue. Max 250 people indoors and 500 outdoors. Restrictions on sporting events remain in place. 100 people now allowed at funerals - no night vigils

Was the Move One Million protest at the weekend in any way significant? We try to provide an answer. We have a wonderful story about a Hermanus resident and former fighter pilot during the second world war, who turned a 100 this week. We chat to an aspiring young writer from Zwelihle about his short film and visit the well known Hemingways Bookshop in Hermanus, who recently re-located.

This week we focus on the Kleinmond Wildlife Sanctuary where the owner, Craig Saunders, has applied for permits to re-locate two Elephants. If the permits are granted the Safari Park could become a major tourism destination in the Cape Whale Coast region. Then we report on a brand new safety plan for the Overstrand municipal area which could see more municipal cops on the beat and the introduction of specialized units.
