A local website in Hermanus estimates that the cost of controlling the political unrest in the town is around R12 million per day. They believe there are some 7000 protesters. They estimate that some 7000 rubber bullets and 600 teargas canisters were fired on Friday. There are also reports that some homes of people from Zwelilhe that did go to work were burnt down. In the meantime virtually all the main Facebook sites in Hermanus reporting on the violence have decided to close down comments. The Hermanus CPF, probably the most reliable source of info, has also gone offline. Apparently this was unplanned and will be rectified.
