A restaurant manager in Kleinmond's harbour and at least two foreign employees were arrested by Home Affairs officials this morning. They were taken to the police station in the back of a Home Affairs van. At another restaurant a Zimbabwean employee apparently fled rather than be arrested.
A workgroup that aims to address the issue of undocumented foreign workers met with the departments of Home Affairs and Labour on Monday where they were asked to step up action against employers who employ illegal foreigners
This comes in the wake of demands by the Over Hills community that a quota system be introduced to limit the employment of foreigners. The community had earlier treathened to drive all foreigners out of the town.
