
PRESS RELEASE – All business owners in Overstrand, including house shop (spaza shop) owners, must comply with legal requirements for registration and ownership. This includes the Businesses Act 71 of 1971, municipal by-laws, and the Immigration Act 2002, administered by the Department of Home Affairs.
Registration alone does not permit trading. To obtain a trading license, including for food handling, compliance with health regulations from the district municipality and municipal regulations is required.
What you need to do:
Complete the application form with all supporting documents, including ID Copy, Proof of Ownership, Approved Building Plans, Layout Plan, Occupancy Certificate, Certificate of Acceptability (COA), and Fire Safety Compliance. Health & Building Compliance:
The application must be reviewed by the Overberg District Municipality Health Department, as well as Overstrand Municipality’s Building Control and Fire Departments, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Site Inspection:
Following the submission of your application, the Overstrand Municipality will conduct re-inspections to ensure compliance with licensing regulations.
